RSS Setup and Use
First: What is RSS? Simply put, RSS (Really
Simple Syndication) is syndicated news - news that is made available to anyone
with a reader. As the news becomes available it is displayed in your RSS reader.
It's used by sites that range from news sites to weblogs. When you look at
a RSS page all that is displayed is the XML code. The URL for that page must
be placed in a RSS readed, such as Mozilla
Thunderbird or Awasu
reader.
RSS readers can be used to quickly retrieve the most recent
information from sites you want to hear from, all in one quick and easy location.
Next: How do I get NeoDawgs news (or anyone
else's) set up in Thunderbird or Awasu?
For Thunderbird: In Thunderbird go to your
menu bar, to 'Tools', then to 'Account Settings'. Click the button 'Add Account'.
Select 'RSS News and Blogs', then click 'Next'. Assign it an account name
(preferrably a name that will represent the blogs you will add to this group)
and click 'Next'. Click 'Finish'. Now, while still in the 'Account Settings'
dialog box, highlight the account you just created. Click 'Manage Subscriptions'
and then 'Add'. Now add the URL (address) of the newsfeed (copy and paste
it from the address bar of the page that has the XML code on it) to the box
labeled 'Feed URL'. Click 'OK' until you've exited the 'Account Settings'
dialog box. At this point you're done. You will receive the news as you would
email. Just check it once in a while.
For Awasu: Go to 'File', then to 'New Channel'.
In the dialog box paste the URL (address) of the newsfeed (copy and paste
it from the address bar of the page that has the XML code on it). Click 'Next'.
Fill out the next box where needed, if needed, and click 'Next'. Change the
options to suit your needs. Click 'Next'. Put the RSS feed under the appropriate
category and click 'Next'. Click 'Finish'.
There you go! Add all the feeds you can handle!
